My Successor Is Arriving…

Sep 14th, 2007 by Jo Han Mok | 162

I need your help.

You know, there’s something I need to confess to you.

You may know that I got married on the 27th of May this year.

Well….*drumroll please *

It was a shot gun. : - )

(My good friend Matt Bacak had a good time laughing about it at my wedding. Mark Joyner, Armand Morin, Ted Ciuba, John Childers, Tom Hua, James B. Allen, James Brown and Pill Gates were all there as well.)

Or as I said during my wedding speech, my wife tricked me into marrying her by telling me I was pregnant. =p

Anyway, accidents do happen, and the good news is, my son is due anytime next week.

Yes, I’m excited. Very excited.

The problem is, my wife and I have a hard time coming up with a name for my son.

I came up with one, and the whole world seems to think that it’s the corniest name ever.

The name that I came up with, was Jo Hanson Mok.

And if you’re smart like me, you’ll see ( Jo Han Son).

*Don’t you wish you thought of that?*

Anyways, it’s pronounced Johansen.

So what do you think?

I’d be glad to hear your ideas for a name for my son.

I’ll paypal you $100 if I do use it. : - )

Do leave your ideas in the ‘comments’ section and let me know.

Hopefully, you can help me escape from all the flack my wife’s bitchy friends are giving me.

Be quick though, the big man will arrive next week, and if you don’t hear from me soon, you’ll know I’m at the hospital waiting to welcome the MAN.

Your Sincerely,

Jo Han Mok In Trouble

P.S. I thank you in advance for any bright ideas you have

    Hi Jo Han Mok

I like Johansen lol, i have 4 kids and one on the way in Jan 08 all our kids middle names begin with a J, that will be the wifes idea. Im only the donor.

We like to be different in our baby names, we went to some sites and looked at the most popular names e.g www.statistics.gov.uk/specials/babiesnames_boys.asp

    then AVOIDED them lol

Once we got past that part, we went to www.babycentre.co.uk/babyname/ to get a ton of meanings on our
    choices.

unfortuantly ive only been on your list about a week and dont really know your temperment, attitude or style id hate to suggest something that might offend, the sites above though did give myself and wife some insight (they are not my sites)

    Hi Jo Han, :)

Classic situation, I actually think that Johanson, is and would be a great name.. Very clever!
or maybe Jo Han Junior, hey you’re pretty famous, why not?

I have four boys, When they are born you just seem to know if the name you have picked is a good fit or not as soon as you see them for the first time..

I changed my mind once they were born, the names I had picked originally just didn’t seem right.

Now they are much older, we joke about the original names I was going to call them, & they are greatful I didn’t. :)

I always think the Mum should have the last say! Because we are usually right! :) (it’s a woman thing) LOL..

    Good Luck, & Congratulations!
    Dianne Kneller :)

Congratulations to you and your wife Jo Han!

I like Jo Hanson Mok myself. Some women have no sense of humor. LOL

How about Jonah Mok or Jo Nah Mok. Same letters.

Hope all goes well with the birth.

I’ll keep you in my prayers,

    Tim

  11. Hans Chee said:

Hmm…is Jo your surname (last name) or Mok?

Ok, here’s one idea, if Jo is your surname, put the acronym J.O.Y. to good use. e.g. Jo Ooi Yong

    Once again, Congrats!

I think the name that you have picked is neet. It follows a lot of European ways in using your name and adding son to it. You could call him Hans and everyone will think he is from Denmark.

Good luck to you and your little one and give Mama a hug.

  15. Paula said:

    How about Raymand Jo Mok.

    cheers

  16. Jim said:

    Hi Joe (and the wife)

    Congratulations on the impending arrival.

For a master copywriter yourself surely the name you would use would be Gary?

    Jim

    Hello Jo Han,

Here are the three best names to match your last name “Mok”.

    1. Joshua
    2. Jonathan
    3. Evan

Good luck in your baby name search and I hope the above three names help you.

  18. Matthew Keith said:

I don’t see anything wrong with your idea… could definitely be worse!!!

  19. Brian said:

Frankly, Jo Han, my advice is to stay away from any name which is similar to your own or anybody else in your immediate family. It will only cause confusion and, believe me, your son won’t thank you for it.

My suggestion would be Troy Lee. It has a cool ring to it and will likely make him a hit with his peers (not to mention the girls).

  20. Michelle Hmelevsky said:

    Hi Jo Han,
Congratulations on your new marriage and coming son.
I think your choice is a bad one although I do understand the Han Son (Hanson), but would other kids, at school, church, etc, make fun of his name? Why don’t you let your wife pick out his first & you give his middle as Jo or Han?
If it’s the tradition of your culture for the man to pick out the child’s name, then change tradition.

  21. Palo said:

    Hi Jo Han,

I have a suggestion you might want to try…

    ASK YOUR SON..

I’m serious. You and you wife find a nice quiet
and peaceful setting when no one will disturb you for a few minutes.

Both of you gently place your hands on her stomach.

Talk to your son as if he already completly understood you.

Tell him how welcome he is coming into your lives, how much he means to you both and anything else you would like to tell him at this time.

At this point he is still connected to The Source of All and understands more than you might think.

Ask him what name he would like to be called .

Then get completly quiet and just listen to your thoughts for a few minutes.

You or your wife or mabye both will get a strong thought about a name. It might be one you have been thinking about already or a new one. Go with the strongest impression you get.

That will be the name the “Little Man” would prefer.

    Blessings to your new family……Palo

    p.s.
Sometimes they like to be named after one of thier Grandparents.

  25. Geoff Foster said:

    Jo Han:

Tch, tch, the arrival of a son is no occasion for smart-ass puns!

What you must do is look ahead 5, 10, 15 and 20 years, and picture your son interacting with friends, class-mates and colleagues.

[An aside; we gave my first daughter the name ‘Nike’, which was the classical Greek equivalent of Venus.

Two problems: first, no-one then knew how to pronounce it; teachers went so far as to correct her, saying, “no dear, you should say ‘Nicky’”.

Second, after a few years, the sports shoes came along!]

That’s an idea, you could call him ‘Adidas Mok’ — only kidding!

You can ever go wrong by naming a child after a grandparent - so call him by the name of your wife’s father.

Best of luck - you will lose or you will win.

    Congratulations, anyway,

    Geoff Foster.

    Hey Mr. Mok,

I know how difficult it is finding a really good name for your newborn. How about Malachi Mok.
It’s not too common plus it has a nice sound, and it’s easy to remember.

    Anyway, that’s my contribution.

    Much love and peace!

How about something that has a ring of class, with a tradition first name and a very old time, yet new and unique sounding middle name:

    William Gage

Or else stick to your guns and go with Johansen or a variation, let your wife choose a middle name (OR vice-versa), and then let your successor decide which he likes best.

Great problem to have! Congrats and best wishes.

If you really want “son” in the name, I think “Edison Mok” would be better. It would honor your record of creativity and success, plus he would have his own name rather than a repeat of someone else’s.

Hey Jo, tell everyone else they can kiss your butt…..it’s YOUR son not theirs. There is no one you have to answer to other than yourself. You will never forgive yourself if 10-20 years from now you step back and say…..I should have named him Jo Hanson.

BTW, I happen to like the name Jo Hanson. Give it to him with pride.

My wife wanted to name our first daughter Brianna but I didn’t feel it would be proper to name a daughter after the father, my daughter has told me many times she wished we had named her Brianna. My bad that I have to live with.

Go with your heart, if you want his name to be Jo Hanson then be it so. No one else matters.

    Hi Jo Han,

I’m sure you had millions of names already in mind for your arriving son and good luck to both of you I hope the baby is a healthy one.

Jo Hansen Mok is good but how about reverse the name to Hanson Jo Mok or Hansen John Mok or Hansen Jon Mok. Or your name is good also but your son will have to be your junior “Jo Han Mok Jr.” or how about your wife’s name. Started with your wife’s first letter word after all your wife is giving birth to your son.

Anyway, Hanson Jo Mok sounds better.

    Good luck!

My best to you and your wife, congratulation.

    Hi Jo Han,

I must say Jo Han you sure have humor. I never would have thought
of a name like that. What are you going to call your next child if
it happens to be a girl? Sure would like to know that.

Why don’t you name him Hermann after me? It’s an old german name.
You can always call him Herm for short.
You see, Hermann the Cherusker beat the Romans in the year 9 in
the Teutoburger forest. Just a little history.

Like to hear from you what name you actually gave your son.
Before I forget, Congratulation to the arrival of your son!

    of all skills you have.

Some names that ticked off the mind is:
    1. Gary
    2. John
    3. Claude
    4. Charles

I’m from Asia and my thinking is very traditional.

This little baby belong to you and your wife. What does naming got to do with these friends? You and your partner will be calling his name EVERYDAY. You must feel comfortable and proud with this name. Remember he is your successor, not their.

You may thanks them for their opinions. I’ll like to offer one suggestion. Whoever friends want you to select their choice of name, ask them to raise the baby for you by sponsoring all his expenses.

My daughter Natasha and my son Xander represent us, my hubby and I. We declined all names suggested by friends cos we are the only right person to select the best and most suitable name.

So choose a name that engrave in your heart. This name represent you couple and will follow him whole life.

Congrats to you couple for your new family memeber. And sincernly wish more members to add on.

    Dear Jo Han:

I have 2 suggestions for your son’s name, will explain the meaning as well:

    1) JOHANAN: meaning - God graciously bestows.

    2) JEREMIAH: - God will uplift

I know both names sound very religious Johan, but actually your name also has a deep meaning, and it is ‘the lord is gracious’.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

… so it looks as though money can buy anything.

    Hi JoHan,

How’s about “Solomon Mok Jo Hanson” or people can call him Sol for short.

King Solomon is the richest, wisiest and the most successful man in our history.

Imagine when he sign off with his signature at the end of a sales page as:

    Sol Mok Jo Hanson

Sound great and i think has a very strong western and eastern identity as just your name.

    Hi Jo Han,

first: best wishes to you and your wife! It’s a great thing when a child is born.

Your idea with the name is creativ ;-), but you should think for the kid, not for you. Take a name that is comfortable to the kid and the whole surrounding. I know, its difficult. My second son (now he is 18…) we needed 5 days after birth to decide for the right name…

Discuss it with your wife and chose a name, that is unique.

    Good luck!

    Jo Han wonderfull news.

Congratulations! and best wishes for a safe and easy labour and delivery for your wife. I am a retired midwife.

The name Johanson is cute, but I am inclined to think what happened to me with my second, -just may happen to you both. That when you have spent some quality time with your son you will ‘know’ the name. Don’t be in any hurry to chose.
By the way. He was Alister John, which means defender of men and beloved of God. You can borrow either.

When I was only 14 weeks pregnant with my first, someone asked me what I was having. I replied a boy of course! (How could I possibly know?) They followed up with “What are you going to call him?” And I replied, “Justin Paul!” I hadn’t previously thought of a name. He is very just and true, so the name has imparted strength to him.
    Names are very important.
Every culture is different but my choice would be
    ***********JAN HAN MOK*********** Pixie.

    Jo Han ‘the Man’ Mok,

I like your idea. If your wife insists on having
a say in the name, definitely keep Jo Han Mok as
a part of it…eg. {first name} Jo Han Mok which
means: {first name}, son of Jo Han, from the family
    of Mok.

Then when your son has kids he can continue the
tradition and his lineage is always preserved.

    {first name} son of {first name} son of {first name}
from the family of Mok. (always named after the father,
    even the girls)

    Just a thought>

  98. Steve McKay said:

    First; Congrats, big time!

Many people posting here pointed out a very important fact. Your son will carry his name with him through school, adolecence, and on into adult hood. What may be cute at 1,2, or 4 years of age may come back to bite him later in life.
I say go with a name that will stand out, a name that almost begs respect, and won’t lead to possible teasing as a child, or water cooler jokes in adulthood.
Here are a few of my ideas:
    Robert Allan Mok,
    Hunter Allan Mok,
    Tucker Allan Mok,
    Stephen Allan Mok

Allan as a middle name sort of goes with everything!
I guarantee if you pick one of the above people will like his name, and these are names people tend to remember (give him a positive marketing advantage in his life from day one)!
    Just my take.
All the best to you and your wife!

    Jo Han Mok:

This just might be your real first lesson being a “good husband”. Mommy’s are very possessive of their first born children. Mother bear syndrom I call it.

If I were you, I would treat her with the utmost kindness, sweetness, love, compassion, gentility you can possibly muster up. if she feels like your queen, she is going to realise that you were her gift from God (or whomever you like) and “want” to name her son after you.

But if immaturity and domanance prevail, she is going to look at you as a possible mistake and call her son whatever she wants as soon as she gets the opportunity, then tell you ‘you weren’t here when I had to sign the baby’s name on the papers so I just did what I thought I should’.

I only have one son, and although I worship the ground my husband walks on, he really didn’t want me to name my son after him. I honored his wishes. But I did name my son after the only other man I worship, my father. My daughter on the othr hand, it was my choice. 100% my choice.

Make her worship you and she will realise how important it is to you. But you only have a few day so you might have your work cut out for you.

Since several people have put in their ideas, I’ll put mine in here too. If you are easily offended, please do not read. It is not my intention to be offensive, but the truth can sting a little.
    Ready?
    Good.

The best name for your son is the one you choose. Jo Hanson Mok sounds like a good name to me, and if that is what you think, then that is what you should name your son.
There is a life and internet marketing lesson to be learned here. As business persons we seek out advice to run our businesses better. This is a good thing, and sometimes it is a requirement for the business to grow. So, I am not saying we should not seek advice, but often we do this due to a high lack of confidence in our own abilities. We fear being wrong about something, especially when others that only wish to control us attempt to do so by doing things that support our fears. They laugh at us, make jokes, belittle us, and do countless other things. These things hurt the most when they come from people close to us; especially when we admire or otherwise value the person’s opinion. Could this be why you are still searching for a name for your son? Everyone will always have an opinion, but for you and your family, your own is probably the best. Others want to win the money you are offering so they are doing their best in the hopes of winning.
As much as I could use the money myself, (I’m getting married next month,) my suggestion is that if I would win; then please give the money to a more worthy cause.

“Joseph” because it is a neat but different way to use your first name. “Hanli” because it builds on your name and the Swiss people put “li” on the end of names of loved ones making it heart-warming to hear someone use that form of name when referring to you.

His school mates or business acquaintenances could then call him as Joe or Joe-Hanli.

It would be like your name only still different and distinctive!

Just hopefully choose something that he can live with as a kid or teenager - something his mates can’t tease him with! Kids have a way of adapting the name you give him anyway.

    Best wishes!

    Congratulations!

It’s actually not that hard to choose a name for your baby. It’s really easy when you think simple.

Here’s my own experience when I choose one for my daughter…

I name my daughter according to what I wanted her to be in the future.

For example, my daughter’s name was Hui Xin.

    Hui=Intelligent Xin=Heart

As you can see here, I wanted her to be intelligent so she can learn things fast, but at the same time not forgetting she must have a passionate heart so that she will be kind and willing to do things with a passion.

Next I wanted her to be bright and cheerful, that’s why I choose Cheryl which will reminds everyone of cherry when they hear her name. That way she’ll be known to others as a very happy and friendly girl around.

You see, it’s not very hard. Just close your eyes and visualize how your son will look like, the way he talks, walks, behaves…

Can you now think of any name to call him?

    Well, I wish you do.

I hope this helps and wishes you and your family all the best!

    Regards,
    Eric Tan

P.S. By the way, I’m not providing any name here because I’m not vying for the cash prize. Just wanted to help as you do remind me of my shotgun marriage 5 years ago…

Since I’m called the Nite Nite Nanny and this is when I go into people’s homes to take care of them just as soon as they get home from the hospital so the parents can sleep (since usually they are with other children) in the household.
I get around a lot of newborns. My favorite name is Mason JoHanson Mok

I do not have a PayPal account due to a keylogger using it in my name and so you may send MO to address above.

Congrats on your new precious arrival who will totally change your life.

Using some of the letters of your first name Jo Hanson if you want him to have part or all of your name I would go for Hosonjo Mok.

The name you picked is excellent however you may want to call him “Runna” in a year or so. Y’know Runna Mok.

It’s nice to have a baby, so both of you: be Happy! Give the baby’s name: Happy Son Jo (if a boy) or Happy Queen Han (if a girl)!
